Obituary

Cheryl Lynn (Bruner) Fennel, 67, formerly of Moberly, passed away unexpectedly at her Sturgeon home Monday, April 3, 2023.  She was born in Moberly, New Year’s Eve 1955 to Leon and Phyllis (Castle) Bruner.

Cheryl graduated from Moberly High School in 1974 and went on to join the Missouri National Guard where she was a Sgt 1st Class E4 Communications Specialist. She further continued her education with a nursing degree from MACC. While Cheryl excelled at whatever she put her mind to, and had a wide range of various jobs throughout her life, nursing was always her love, especially the field of geriatrics, where she could learn the histories and experiences of the generations before her. She regretted not writing all of those stories down.

Surviving are her father Leon Bruner (Wanda), her two children, Gentry Bohm (Shawn) and Gabe Fennel (Karisa), grandsons Isaac and Isaiah Bohm, Blake Martin, and Lincoln Fennel, all of Moberly. Also surviving are her brothers Mike Bruner (Debbie) of Springfield, IL, and Phil Bruner (Lori) of Moberly, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Cheryl was proceeded in death by her wonderful mother Phyllis, a nephew Joshua Bruner, special grandmother Louisa (Wright) Bruner, and the father of her children Duane Fennel.

Cheryl Lynn was one of the most determined, resourceful, and hardworking people you could ever meet. She loved gardening and an array of creative projects, alwaysfull of a new idea or thought on how to revamp something. She enjoyed animals, especially dogs, and was rarely without a pet, usually some stray or pound rescue. Cheryl rarely did anything that she didn’t add a little pizazz to. She was a wonderful cook, and could always find value in what others may not. She shared often of her love and fun times with her grandma Louisa, and that her parents gave her a wonderful childhood and upbringing. Her words were “the best childhood anyone could ever have.” Cheryl was born again at a revival service in 2011 at Sweet Springs Baptist Church, and was later baptized there.
