Carolyn Lyles, 89, of Higbee, died Thursday, July 15, 2021. She was born June 26, 1932 in Centertown, MO to Roy and Othelia (Urban) Thompson.
She married John Lyles on May 9, 1958 in Ferguson, MO and he survives of the home. Also surviving is her son, Wesley Lyles of Higbee.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Barbara Thompson Moody.
Carolyn received her Master’s degree in education at the University of Missouri Columbia. Prior to her marriage she taught at Keokuk Community College in Iowa. She taught at various Elementary schools in St. Louis County, teaching remedial reading for Rockwood School District, 1969-87, while living in Ellisville, MO.
She loved hiking, camping and birdwatching. During the nineteen sixties when Carolyn and John were both teaching, they travelled the county in their VW Micro-bus during the summers.
Upon retirement on a farm near Higbee, Carolyn raised sheep with her husband and son.
She frequently bicycled on the Katy Trial near Rocheport until November 2017 and participated in the Lively Workers Extension Club until April 2021.
Per Carolyn’s wishes there will be no services at this time.
