Obituary

Carolyn Sue (Griffiths) Jeffrey, 89, of Moberly passed away, Tuesday, April 8, 2025.  She was born in Moberly, April 17, 1935, to the union of Dr. Harry C. and Lavinia Griffiths.

She was a member of Coates Street Presbyterian Church since she was 11 years old.  She was an elder in the church and served on the Banner Committee, the Evangelism and Stewardship Committees.  She was a former president of the Women of the Church, of the Sorosis Club, the League of Women Voters, a former committeewoman Union Township in the Randolph County Republican Central Committee.  She was also a member of the Randolph Area Pachyderm Club and Randolph County Republican Woman.  She volunteered as a receptionist in the dining room of the Senior American Multipurpose Center.

Carolyn graduated from Moberly Senior High School in 1953 as a co-salutatorian of her class.  She then attended University of Missouri-Columbia and received a degree in Secretarial Proficiency. While at the university she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority.  She worked as a secretary for the IBM Corp. in Kansas City, Orscheln Truck Lines and the Social Security administration, both in Moberly.

She is survived by her 3 children, Lisa Jeffrey Carroll and her husband Brent, Jerry C. Jeffrey and his wife Leigh, and Steven R. Jeffrey and his wife Sara, 6 grandchildren, Alex, Ryan (Anna) Carroll and Hope, Greyson, Chase, and Max Jeffrey, of Columbia.Carolyn has a great-grandchild, Katrina (Ryan and Anna's) of KS and grandchildren Michele Furrow (Cheyenne and sons Jackson & Conner) of Kansas City, Kara Brietzke (Adam and son Quinn) of Columbia and Kyle Oberkrom (Rebecca) of St. Louis.

Carolyn has  nieces, Deana Schermer of Nixa, Shelley Stewart of WI, Roslyn Stipe of OK., Randa Stice, of MO, a nephew, Jeff Stewart of Salisbury, a cousin, Bill Gaines, additional family and friends.

Carolyn and Jerry T. Jeffrey married in April 1958, and he died in September 2012 after 54 years of married life. Also preceding her in death were her parents, and a sister, Harriet Griffiths Stewart.

The family wants to thank the staff at Meadow Ridge Senior Living Center and the nurses with Compassus Hospice for being such good caregivers for Carloyn during her stay there.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held at the Cater Funeral Home.  Funeral services honoring and celebrating Carolyn’s life were held at the Coates Street Presbyterian Church.  Committal prayer and burial took place at the Oakland Cemetery.
