Obituary

Connie “Gene” Simmerman, 78, of Moberly, passed away Sunday April 2 2023.  He was born to the union of Billy Joe and Elvie (White) Simmerman, in Wenatchee, WA,  June 28, 1944.

Prior to settling in Renick, Missouri where he graduated high school, Gene and his parents traveled the country picking apples in Washington, cutting timber in Arkansas, and hauling watermelons to Virginia and the Carolinas. Gene retired from A.B. Chance in Centralia after 42 years and spent much of his spare time in the outdoors hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Gene loved to share his harvest with his family and with those who were generous enough to allow him to hunt/fish on their property. We would like to send a special thank you to these landowners for their kindness and their friendship to Gene over all these years. Along with hunting and fishing, Gene was an avid archer and spent countless hours practicing and competing with his son and granddaughter. He enjoyed going out to eat and was often on a first name basis with many of the restaurants around Moberly. He especially enjoyed spending holidays with both of his children’s families. He had a soft spot for the wildlife around his home and was a world class turkey caller.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents & step-father Charles Kirk.

He is survived by his daughter Lori and her husband Richard Trask, granddaughters Ashley and her husband Jeremiah Goodman, Jessica and her husband Andrew McPherson, Katie Trask, his son Randy and his wife Joan Simmerman,  grandchildren Kayla Legon , Sydney Simmerman, Mitchell Simmerman, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Words of support were shared with the family at a memorial visitation that was held at Cater Funeral Home.  Private committal prayer and burial will take place at a later date.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
