Brenda graduated from Glasgow High School. She excelled as a basketball player for the Glasgow Yellow Jackets. She led the team in scoring at various times in her high school career, once scoring 49 points in a contest with a left-handed shot that was unstoppable.
Brenda worked in Kansas City in the banking field following high school graduation. After meeting a special man who drove a red Studebaker named Bill Rafferty on a blind date, her time in Kansas City was limited. Bill and Brenda were married in Glasgow, Missouri, on July 26, 1958. They resided in Moberly, Missouri, as they began their married life. Bill and Brenda were blessed with the birth of twins (Bart and Sherri) in 1961.
Brenda was a fulltime mom, caring for her children and supporting their sports and activities as well as being a room mother and PTA member at Southeast Park Elementary. Brenda also worked many years as a clerk for the Moberly Water Department.
Brenda joined First Baptist Church of Moberly with her husband where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a longtime member of a women’s missionary circle where she served the lord with many longtime friends.
After retirement, Brenda and Bill moved to Lake Nehai near Keytesville, Missouri. She enjoyed meeting new friends, swimming nearly every day during the summer at the lake, and eating at Tall Paul’s in Bucklin, Missouri. They moved back to Moberly in 2020 as Bill declined in health. Later in life, Brenda enjoyed daily walks and watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball, Missouri Tiger basketball and westerns on television.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:4
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Brenda’s name to the Christos Center (500 W Rollins Street, Moberly, MO 65270) where Brenda and Bill volunteered for the food bank.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, followed by funeral services honoring Mrs. Rafferty’s life. Committal prayer and burial took place at Memorial Park.
