Bill Rafferty, 87, of Moberly, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Aspire Health and Rehab in Moberly. He was born, September 10, 1936, at Salisbury, Mo. to the union of Virgil and Zoa (Erhardt) Rafferty. He was the oldest of 3 children.
Bill is survived by his wife, Brenda (Huber) Rafferty, of Moberly, whom he married July 26, 1958 in Glasgow, Mo., also surviving are his twin children, son, Bart Rafferty of Moberly, and daughter, Sherri McDevitt and her husband, Joseph, of St. Peters, Mo., 3 grandchildren, Kelly and her husband Alec Sheridan of St. Charles, Mo., Kate McDevitt of St. Peters, Mo., and Joe McDevitt of Denver, CO., 2 great grandchildren, Nora and Paul Sheridan of St. Charles, Mo., a brother Tommy Rafferty, of Wellsville, Mo., nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Hicks.
Bill graduated from Moberly High School and Moberly Jr. College; he worked for Orscheln Brothers truck line for 23 years. He also served as Traffic manager for FERCO Industries and Orscheln Farm & Home until his retirement. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Moberly where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon. Later, he joined First Baptist of Salisbury when they moved to Lake Nehai in Keytesville, Mo.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, and driving fast. He also enjoyed the times spent with family and friends. Bill raced stock cars in the 1950’s and the “Smilin’ Irishman” returned to stock car racing in the 1990’s.
He was loved by many, and will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Christos Center Food Bank in Bill’s honor.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family, at a visitation held at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services honoring and celebrating Bill’s life followed. Committal prayer and burial took place in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
