Arthur H. “Corky” Scheiner

Obituary

Arthur H. “Corky” Scheiner, 92, of Moberly passed away February 13, 2023.  He was born to the union of Leo and Virginia (Schneider) Scheiner, March 10, 1930, in St. Charles, MO. 

His family moved to Moberly, MO in 1934 where he attended school, graduating from Moberly High School in 1948.  Following high school, Corky attended Moberly Junior College and St. Louis University before enlisting and serving in the United States Air Force from 1951-1954.  After receiving his honorable discharge from the military, he resumed his college studies and graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia earning a degree in Business Administration in 1956. Corky was a highly talented baseball player and was well-known for his athletic ability and competitiveness. He pitched for the Ban Johnson Championship Team in 1949 and the Championship Semi-Pro Team in 1956.  Corky pitched for the St. Louis University Team in 1955. When he was no longer actively playing baseball, he turned to coaching and in 1969 he managed a Championship Ban Johnson Team and several American Legion and Little League teams.Corky married Ellen Romaine Richardson on September 15th, 1951, and they returned to Moberly to raise their family.  They were married for 50 years ending with her death on September 22nd, 2001.  Corky was the plant manager of Banquet Foods in Moberly.  He served on the City Council from 1966-1971.  Other community service activities include:  Serving on Board of Directors for the Randolph County Bank; Sheltered Workshop; Moberly Ambassadors; and a faithful member of St. Pius X church.  He also served on the Board for the Bank of Cairo and Moberly for several years.  For many years he kept score at Moberly High School football games and was active umpiring in the local baseball community.On January 3rd, 2004, Corky married Margaruette Hastings, living in Moberly and continuing their married life in his beloved community.  In addition to sports, Corky also appreciated nature and was a meticulous woodcutter and enjoyed being outside and tending to the many trees on his property in the Homestead subdivision.  He was an avid walker and continued his daily walks even in inclement weather, up until the very end. A quiet man, Corky had a great sense of humor and was a pillar of strength for his family.Corky is survived by his wife, Margaruette of the home; his daughter Cynthia Scheiner of Columbia, MO; a son, Steve Scheiner and his wife Marina of Sedalia, MO, daughter-in-law Kathy Scheiner of St. Peters; 5 grandchildren; Rachel Heafner and her husband Jake of Owens Cross Roads, Al; Jessica Shrum and her husband Derek of St. Louis, MO; Coral Scheiner of Colorado Springs, CO; Jamie Scheiner of Denver, CO, and Christopher Scheiner of Columbia, MO; 2 great grandchildren, Zebulon Heafner and Thomas Shrum; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Corky was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Romaine, a son Scott, parents, his brother, Armond and sister, Mary.  

In lieu of flowers memorials to St. Pius X Church would be appreciated.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a Visitation that was held in the Cater Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection honoring and celebrating Corky’s life was held at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Committal prayer and burial followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
