Judy Kay Varns

Judy Kay Varns, 75, of Moberly, died Monday, October 29, 2018. She was born October 19, 1943 in Mexico, MO to Cleo and Marjorie (David) Hartgrove.

Prior to retirement Judy worked as a supervisor in food services for the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Columbia, MO.

Judy married the love of her life Kenneth E. Varns on October 12, 1982 in Moberly and he preceded her in death on December 22, 2016. Also preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors include her children; Douglas Embree and his wife Dena of Anchorage, Alaska and Katina Hess and her husband Rance of Athens, Alabama, five grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren, a brother, Eddie Hartgrove and his wife Mary of Madison, MO, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Judy was a longtime member of the Jefferson Avenue Methodist Church. She was instrumental in keeping the monthly meetings of the Moberly High School Class of 1961 together. Judy was very interested in genealogy over the years and had helped many family members and friends in their genealogy research. She will also be remembered for her love of gardening.

Services honoring and celebrating Judy’s life were held at the Jefferson Avenue Methodist Church. Private committal prayers and inurnment were held in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
