Clara Jo Slater

Thank Clara Jo Slater 75, of Moberly died Wednesday evening, March 6, 2019.  She was born to Sam and Corine (Bryant) Timbrook on March 24, 1943 in Moberly, MO. 

She had worked over 30 years at Wal-Mart prior to her retirement.  Clara started out as a cashier and worked her way up the ladder to district manager.  She had the distinction of becoming the first woman district manager for Wal-Mart. She often said Sam Walton was a good friend and mentor.

She married Jackie Lee Slater, July 21, 1961 in Moberly, MO and he preceded her in death February 15, 2013.  Also preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Joyce Sneed. 

Survivors include her son, Randy Slater and his wife Diann of Viola, IL; a daughter, Candace Roark and her husband Jeff of Independence, KS;  6 grandchildren: Lauren and Meridith Slater, Abby Emert, Josh, Emily and Ben Roark; 3 great-grandsons: Jaxon Slater, Kason and Slater Emert; 2 brothers-in-law, Larry Hendricks and Ed Sneed; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Freeman, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Clara loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Services honoring and celebrating Clara’s life were held in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel.  Committal prayers and burial followed at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
