Obituary

Betty Ona Coons, 83, of Moberly, died Wednesday, September 26, 2018. She was born April 25, 1935 in Moberly to Joseph R. and Mary A. (Bradley) Elsberry. Great 

Prior to retirement Betty was director of the volunteer services at Moberly Regional Medical Center, a program that she initiated in 1980. 

She married Barry C. Coons on January 15, 1956 in Moberly and he preceded her in death on June 3, 2017. Also preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors include her children; Robyn Engel and her husband Joe of Baxter, IA and Jeff Coons of Keller, TX, six grandchildren; Kyli Lamanno and her husband Alex, Nathaniel and Bradley Coons, Sarah Tisdale and her husband Clint, Laura and Elisabeth Engel, two great-grandchildren, Addilee and Joelle Tisdale, a brother, Howard W. Elsberry and his wife Anne of Leawood, KS, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Betty was a member of the Carpenter Street Baptist Church. She was past President of the PTA and was a very active member and volunteer for the American Cancer Society where she served as education chairman of Randolph County. She was a former longtime member of the Moberly planning and zoning commission and served as a Randolph County Election Judge. She was also a member of the Moberly Altrusa Club and served as President.

Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

 Services honoring and celebrating Betty’s life were held at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Committal prayers and burial followed in the Oakland Cemetery.
