Obituary

Stephen Wayne “Steve” Ancell, 71 of Holts Summit, MO, formerly of Moberly, MO, passed away, Sunday, March 3, 2024. He was born in Moberly, MO, November 19, 1952, to the union of Raymond and Mary (Johnston) Ancell.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda (Boland) Ancell, of the home whom he married August 15, 1982 in Huntsville, MO, a brother James “Jim” Ancell of Camdenton, MO, nieces and nephews, Jennifer Ancell Ruhl and family of Hannibal, MO, Eric Ancell and family of Hannibal, MO, Matt Ancell and family of Camdenton, MO, Tom Bauman and family of Milford, FL, Jason Baumann of Moberly, MO, Jessica Baumann Rutherford and family of Huntsville, MO, Heather Baumann Robinson and family of Branson, MO, and Samantha Baumann of Springfield, MO.

Although never blessed with children of his own, he had the privilege and joy of a extended family consisting of, Sandra Barron of Moberly, MO, Matt Barron and family of Wichita, KS, Kerry Barron Bueche and family of Cypress, TX, Kathy Barron and family of Moberly, MO, and Dorothy Morrison and family of Holts Summit, MO, and adoptive grandchildren, William and Isabella “Izzy” Luebbering of St. Thomas, MO, and many other close family and friends.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, and a sister Judith “Judy” Ancell Baumann

Steve graduated from Moberly High School in 1970 and Moberly Area Junior College in 1972. He joined the US Air Force in 1975 and was honorably discharged in 1979. While in the USAF he was mainly stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, AZ as an airframe repair specialist where he worked on F-4’s and F-15’s. When he returned to civilian life, he utilized his VA Benefits to continue his education, graduating from the University of Missouri, Columbia, in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

After graduation he began his engineering career with Orscheln Brake Lever in Moberly, MO as a Brake Lever Design Engineer. During his time with Orscheln's he was proud to have his name on several Patents. He later moved to Joplin, MO, and worked for Eagle Picher Battery Co. as a Battery Engineer. In 1997 he started with the State of Missouri working with Missouri Vocational Enterprises in Jefferson City. He held the position of Production Specialist, later becoming Coordinator over several factories across the state. He retired from the State of Missouri with over 20 years of service. Steve enjoyed the outdoors, especially his home, the pond he built and feeding the wildlife.

In lieu of flowers Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation that was held, in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, followed by funeral services honoring Steve's life .   Committal prayer, Military Honors, and  inurnment took  place at the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery.
